Pakistan Going Steady In Hobart Test

HOBART: Pakistan batsmen showed some fight on the third morning of the final Test at Bellerive Oval, keeping Australia wicketless in the first session as it chipped away at a huge deficit.

Salman Butt and Shoaib Malik dug in on a flat, batsmen-friendly wicket to take the tourists’ score to 4 for 158 at the lunch break, still 361 runs short of Australia’s first innings total of 8 (declared) for 519.

Butt in particular had a point to prove after being involved in two disastrous run outs late on day two, taking his personal total to 74 not out with 14 boundaries.

Malik played a more patient hand at the other end, unbeaten at the break on 28, as he and his partner added only 64 runs in 28 overs.

Australia’s bowlers have been accurate but toiled without luck, beating the bat on numerous occasions but edges remain elusive.
