Fazlu criticizes haste in process of constitutional reforms

DERA ISMAEL KHAN: The leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Molana Fazlur Rehman, criticizing over swiftness in process of constitutional reforms, has ruled out the issue being a political one, instead, he insisted on a thorough deliberation before reaching any decision, Geo news reported on Wednesday.

Talking to media here, he said we have put forward out reservations regarding reforms in constitution in front of constitutional reforms committee.

We have also objected to 33 percent quota for women in National Assembly seats, he said.

We are not against women quota on National Assembly seats but the same could serve nothing during tenure of former President Musharraf, being a question mark over the efficiency and performance of National Assembly, he noted.

It is enshrined in Charter of Democracy (CoD) that a commission will be formed for appointment of judges which will be headed by such Chief Justice of Pakistan who had never taken oath under Provisional Constitution Ordinance (PCO), he observed.

Fazlur Rehman said there are three key issues on the agenda of constitutional reforms committee including repeal of 17th amendment, reforms regarding provincial autonomy and amendments in constitution in line with CoD’s recommendations, he maintained.
