Devin Mccourty

Latest Updates News About Kyle Wilson, Kareem Jackson, Jermaine Gresham, Sean Weatherspoon, Houston Texans: The Patriots traded back twice from No. 22 to No. 27 in Thursday’s first round of the NFL draft and selected cornerback Devin McCourty from Rutgers. The Patriots picked up a third-round pick (No. 90 overall) and moved up in the fourth round (from No. 119 overall to No. 113).

McCourty shared his reaction to being selected by the New England Patriots with the 27th overall selection on a conference call with media members Thursday night.

“I’m just happy to be a Patriot right now, it’s an incredible feeling,” he said. “Me and my mom, we cried for a little bit. I’m just so happy right now.”

McCourty said he sat with Patriots coach Bill Belchick on Rutgers’ campus earlier this month when he spoke at a coaches’ clinic.

“We had about an hour and watched some film,” he said. “Just spoke for a little while. It was a real generic conversation and he told me some things on film, just watching, that helped me out as far as a player.”

McCourty relayed a humorous story of how he was in the bathroom when the Patriots called. His brother knocked on the door and McCourty made it in time to answer the call from Belichick and owner Robert Kraft, showing some early change-of-direction skills.
